Boyfriend's bizarre reason for voting in US election - 'she was going to break up with me'

A man who was said he was not going to cast his ballot has gone viral after he said he only got down to the polling station when his girlfriend threatened to break up with him if he did not vote for .

In a viral interview with CNN, Brian Flores said he was not going to vote in the neck-and-neck election but that a threat from his girlfriend made him reconsider. Brian, who cast his ballot in Charlotte, North Carolina, told the CNN reporter he voted for Harris.

"And tell me how you came to this decision," the reporter asked Brian. He replied: "So, I wasn't going to vote at all until my girlfriend was blowing up my phone telling me to go vote.

"And if I didn't, she was going to break up with me. So, now I'm here."

But Brian soon admitted his girlfriend did not in fact threaten to break up with her, although she did ask him to vote for Harris. "I made that up, she didn't say that but it's funny to say that."

The reporter then asked: "So, she asked you to vote for Harris?" Brian then replied: "She did."

Brian then admitted to having voted for in the 2020 Presidential Election, although he intended to stay at home for the current election. "I was going to stay home, eat some chips (crisps) or something," he added.

Brian finally said he cast his ballot after work and that he waited two hours to cast his ballot. The reporter noted this was unusual as many people were able to vote within five minutes.

Since being shared, the clip has been seen more than 1.8 million times and has attracted an estimated 36,000 likes. The overwhelming majority of people who commented on the clip found humour in the situation with others praising Brian.

One X/ user said: "I said this was happening everywhere and no one was talking about it. Happy wife happy life." Another posted: "She's a good woman, he better not lose her."

A third commenter added: "Mr Brian Flores telling CNN that he only voted because his girlfriend made him and that he would rather have sat at home and eaten chips is absolutely peak young millennial." But there were others who quickly pointed that Brian admitted comments were not genuine them lies.

Brian cast his ballot in North Carolina, one of the that will determine the outcome of the Presidential Election. Republican will aim to win some of the states Biden swept in 2020 in order to deny Harris a historic win to become the first female president in the White House.
