'I won everything and was one of the best - Man Utd's Erik ten Hag plan has baffled me'

Wesley Sneijder has taken a swipe at Manchester United's reported blueprint for Erik ten Hag amid crucial games against Porto and Aston Villa.

Despite Ten Hag kicking off the season with an extra year on his deal, there's been non-stop chatter about his future following a rocky start to the 2024/25 campaign.

The Red Devils are currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League after six matches, reeling from a crushing 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, their second such defeat at home this term.

With a Europa League clash against Porto on Thursday (October 3) and a trip to Aston Villa on Sunday (October 6) on the horizon, rumours are rife about Ten Hag's fate if this week brings further disappointing outcomes.

Sneijder, who earned 22 trophies in a glittering career that peaked with a Treble at Inter Milan in 2010, scoffed at the speculation and ridiculed the Red Devils over their supposed plans to ditch the Dutch coach if results aren't what they want in the next two games, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Speaking to Rondo, he said: "We now read reports: 'this is the week of truth for Erik ten Hag.' What's this all about? What if he draws vs Porto and accidentally beats Aston Villa, that would fix everything for them? What this policy?

"So this club is already working on maybe appointing a new manager, but at the same time these two results can change everything?!" Following the defeat against Spurs, Ten Hag was confronted with questions about his future.

He firmly brushed aside concerns regarding his position by declaring: "No, I am not thinking about this, we all made this decision to stay together, as an ownership, as a leadership group in the summer.

"We are all on one page or in one boat together the ownership, the leadership group, the staff and the players as well. I don't have that concern."

Despite ten Hag's comments, United have already been linked with a number of bosses with Inter Milan's Simone Inzaghi emerging as a possible frontrunner.
