'My dad thought Nigella Lawson was private messaging him – he soon learned hard way'

A woman shared hilarious footage of a conversation with her dad in which he realised he got social media all wrong.

Musician Ines Rae set her father up on and but after seemingly grasping how to use the apps, it soon became apparent he'd misunderstood a key element. "On TikTok and Instagram they're all sending me the private messages - [Lawson] was sending me things," Ines' dad stated at the beginning of the clip.

He continued: "Lots of people were sending me them, but you told me it was their story or something?" Laughing, Ines replied: "You thought they were private messaging you?"

Appearing slightly confused with a smirk, her dad revealed he replied to all of them, adding that some of them then responded to him. "They're probably wondering why you're messaging them about every story!" laughed Ines.

Adding further confusion, her dad continued: "No it wasn't a story, it was on my phone and Nigella would say a thing like, 'Today I'm making a delicious lemon cake' - and I would say, 'That looks really nice, thank you'. But she would just do it all the time, and so would lots of other people so I responded to them - which you said is a story and they're not responding to me - but some of them have."

Still finding the funny side, Ines questioned: "No but you thought they were a private message - why would Nigella be telling you about her cake? Why would you think she would send you a private text?"

Insistent, her dad said: "They've responded back to me - a lot of people have. When you set up TikTok and Instagram I was her friend on it." Ines explained: "No, you're just following her!" Her dad closed the clip: "So we're not friends?"

Praising his innocence, one TikTok user commented: "Honestly he is just the cutest person ever!" Another exclaimed: "We need to get Nigella to actually meet him."

A third added: "Aww you should never have told him, he thought he was friends with Nigella." While a fourth person agreed: "Oh no, you’ve ruined it for him, he thought him and Nigella were besties. How dare you tell him!"

Others shared similar tales, meanwhile, with one person revealing: "My dad is the same... he thought had been messaging him personally, and he replied accordingly." A second wrote: "Truth is, most men on my Insta seem to think my stories are direct messages to them so maybe just a man thing."

And a third quipped: "There's someone like this at my job, he's a regular and all he talks about is Elon musk keeps messaging him and he tells him to stop messaging, but he doesn't listen."
