Reese Witherspoon gives fans hope as she shares update on Big Little Lies season 3

Reese Witherspoon dropped clues that Big Little Lies fans could be in for a treat, with the hit HBO series seemingly edging closer to production for its next season.

The star-studded show, rooted in Liane Moriarty's novel and riddled with dark secrets among California's elite women, took home a raft of Emmys following its 2017 debut.

The successful second season, which welcomed Meryl Streep to an ensemble cast including Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz, left fans in anticipation after its finale five years ago.

At the Hello Sunshine Shineaway event speaking to E! News, Witherspoon couldn't hold back her excitement.

She said: "I really want to have a season three. Nicole and I have been waiting for Liane Moriarty. She's going to be turning something in very soon. So we're back to the original author and we're gonna go back to the original characters "(sic), reports .

She also hinted at fresh dynamism in the plot, saying: "It's exciting too because I think the kids are probably a little bit older now, so that might add another element."

Earlier statements from Kidman and Witherspoon hinted at their behind-the-scenes efforts towards this new season as early as January 2024.

David E. Kelley, the mastermind behind the hit series, left fans hanging in suspense about which characters would make a comeback for the upcoming season. Speaking to ET in April 2024, he said, "It's a very, very busy schedule to make it work."

Reese Witherspoon has out an end to the speculation by confirming the return of the main cast.

Adding to that, in her conversation with E! News, Witherspoon brought fans up to speed on the new Amazon Prime prequel centred on her iconic character, Elle Woods, from Legally Blonde.

Revealing key details about the prequel, she expressed: "[Elle] is the prequel to Elle Woods, to Legally Blonde. And it's gonna be the story of Elle in high school. We're having this open casting so anybody can submit a tape."

Not stopping there, Witherspoon is also getting set to step back into Elle Woods' shoes for a highly anticipated third instalment of Legally Blonde.
