Netflix has just added the perfect antidote to the long, cold evenings in the run up to .

Despite a ‘ridiculous’ premise and Hallmark-style cheesiness, it’s impossible not to be won over by this whimsical romantic tale, according to critics and fans.

Starring Mean Girls favourite Lacey Chabert, it’s perfect for fans of other holiday hits like The Princess Switch and 2022’s Falling For Christmas, led by Chabert’s one-time co-star Lindsay Lohan.

It debuted with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes with 11 reviews, though that’s not dropped to a still-impressive 88% at the time of writing.

While it won’t win over the most hardened Christmas cynics, Hot Frosty is guaranteed to put a smile on the face of any subscriber looking for some festive flirting and self-aware charm.

Chabert stars as Kathy Barrett, a widow and owner of Kathy’s Diner whose life is literally starting to fall apart around her following the death of her handy husband.

When she stumbles across a snow sculpture competition in her hometown of Hope Springs, her life takes a magical turn when a sexy snowman somehow comes to life.

Despite an extremely silly premise, many critics couldn’t help but be won over by the knowing humour and charming performances from Chabert and Dustin Milligan as the hunky snowman, Jack.

The Guardian said: "It's a sincerely stupid idea executed sincerely, with seemingly complete buy-in from all involved that yes, this is a movie about a snowman with abs. I'll type of brain freeze, for now."

"It's cheap and it's silly and it has a laughable premise that some people will mistake for terribleness. But it's also winking and whimsical,” The Wrap wrote.

“It knows what it's doing and it's doing it on purpose. Somehow it actually kind of works."

IGN Movies called it "a self-aware Christmas rom-com with calculated 'shirtless moments,' Hot Frosty is frothy entertainment that isn't supposed to be taken seriously."

A Rotten Tomatoes user gave the film a whopping four and a half stars, and wrote: “Hot Frosty is the holiday treat you didn’t know you needed.

“This movie isn’t going to win any major awards for anything - writing, direction, or acting.

“However, this movie knows exactly what kind of film it wants to be and who its main audience is. Move over Hallmark, because has nailed the formula for so-bad-it’s-oh-so-good by treating this film with kindness.”

And a user on the movie social media platform Letterboxd also gave Hot Frosty high praise, penning: “Assuming it would be the same quality as most Netflix Christmas romcoms I figured it'd be background viewing while I wrapped presents.

“Well, here I am 90 minutes later and not a single thing wrapped because it really won me over with the sheer silliness and fun performances.

“The story is, of course, ridiculous. But I think that's the point, something ridiculous and silly but filled with Joy and positive vibes. Perfect casual Christmas watching.”

They also promised they’ll be “rewatching” this one during future holidays, so Hot Frosty is definitely one to add to the top of your Christmas watchlist.

Hot Frosty is available to stream on Netflix.
