Strictly's Katya Jones interrupts It Takes Two as she issues statement about Wynne Evans

Strictly Come Dancing pro Katya Jones halted her interview on It Takes Two on Monday as she issued a statement about Wynne Evans.

It comes as Wynne, 52, said that he is "heartbroken" by the reaction to professional partner Katya, 35, moving his hand from her waist during Saturday night’s live show. In another moment on Saturday night, Katya appeared to not want to high-five her celebrity partner.

The pair have both apologised, saying the moment was a "joke" after a clip showing the incident was widely shared on social media.

Appearing on Monday's It Takes Two, Katya halted the show during their interview to address the reports and issue another statement.

Katya said: "Sorry Fleur [East - who hosts the show], sorry, I will get onto dancing I promise but can I please first get something out of the way that I feel like overshadowed our performance for absolutely no reason and quite frankly, actually, I can't bear sitting here watching this man [Wynne] being portrayed as someone he's not.

"In fact, it couldn't be further away from the truth so I have to make this absolutely clear that this whole incident with the hand and the high five on Saturday night it was an inside joke between Wynne and I. Was it a silly joke? Yes! Was it a bad joke? Yes!"

At this point Wynne interjected with: "Yeah and I've watched it back, I can see how people may have misinterpreted it."

Katya then continued: "Yeah but however it was a joke and even the idea that it made me feel 'uncomfortable' or 'offended' in anyway is total nonsense. Those that have doubts, you guys have it got wrong! So hopefully this will be the end of it. You [Wynne] just keep making me smile, please!"

It comes as opera singer Wynne, known for the Go Compare insurance adverts, told Radio Wales prior to It Takes Two: "I’m absolutely heartbroken by the things that have been written about me in the last day.

"It’s not nice to live in that time, but basically Katya and I are really, really close and we’re really good friends, and on Saturday night we made a stupid joke.

"It was a stupid joke that went wrong, okay, we thought it was funny. It wasn’t funny. It has been totally misinterpreted.

"Everything’s on Katya’s socials. She’s talked about it. She’s explained that it was a joke. She wasn’t offended in the least. She doesn’t feel uncomfortable.

"We’ve got a brilliant friendship, an absolutely tight friendship, and I’m sorry if anybody was offended by it, but it was a joke and yeah, that’s all there is, there is no real story, really. And I feel apologising because I feel like I’ve not really done anything."

He agreed he had "misjudged it", when interviewed on Radio Wales Breakfast before starting his own show on the station, and confirmed he was "absolutely still up for" Strictly.

He said: "I’m having the best time of my life. I just don’t want this to be the bit that people remember."

It Takes Two continues on weeknights at 6:30pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
