BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd. (BAPL), an Indo-Russian joint venture, has announced that it will reserve at least 15% of its technical vacancies and half of its administrative and security roles for Agniveers.

This move makes BrahMos the first company in India to implement such a policy.

In addition to regular employment at BrahMos, Agniveers will be integrated into outsourcing contracts, expanding their opportunities for reintegration into civilian careers.

The Agnipath Scheme, launched in 2022, recruits young individuals known as Agniveers into the armed forces for a four-year term.

These recruits receive training in military tactics and technical proficiency.

BrahMos Aerospace's CEO and MD Atul Dinkar Rane explained that "Agniveers are going to be trained and they're going to be disciplined, and we will not have to spend resources on extra training because they would have had rigorous instruction."

"This skill set is exactly what we need to mould them according to the requirements of BAPL. The Agnipath scheme serves as a valuable filter, ensuring that individuals possess the requisite skills to join our workforce," Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Joshi, Deputy CEO, BrahMos Aerospace, said.

"Our recent HR policy reflects this, and Agnipath pass-outs will be the perfect complement to our needs at both the technical and administrative levels," he added.

BrahMos encourages industry partners to hire Agniveers
Partnership initiative

BrahMos is now encouraging over 200 of its industry partners to reserve 15% of their workforce for Agniveers in roles tied to the company's requirements.

This initiative will be included in the "desirable features" section of their tenders as a message to potential collaborators about providing opportunities for Agniveers.

The company has also decided to incentivize industry partners who collaborate with BrahMos to provide opportunities to Agniveers, broadening the initiative's reach across India's defense industrial landscape.

Wider impact

Currently, Agniveers are offered a 10% reservation in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

In July, Haryana announced a 10% quota for Agniveers in select government jobs and a subsidy of ₹60,000 per annum to industrial units offering them a monthly salary over ₹30,000.

The same month, Uttar Pradesh announced that Agniveers would be given weightage in the state police and Provincial Armed Constabulary force.
