J&K: NIA launches search operations linked to Reasi terror attack
27 Sep 2024

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) initiated search operations at seven locations in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.

This action is part of the ongoing investigation into the June 9 terror attack in Reasi, which resulted in nine fatalities and 41 injuries.

The assault took place when terrorists targeted a bus en route to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, officials reported.

The gunfire caused the bus to veer off its path and plunge into a gorge near Teryath village in Reasi's Pouni area.

On June 17, the Union Home Ministry transferred the investigation of the terror attack to the NIA.

Since the incident, authorities have detained 50 individuals in relation to the terror attack.

From Rajouri, one Hakam Khan was arrested for allegedly providing logistical support to the terrorists, including food, shelter, and assistance in scouting the area before the attack.

Following the interrogation of Khan, the NIA conducted searches at five locations associated with hybrid terrorists and their overground operatives on June 30.

Khan's information also suggested the involvement of two Pakistan-based LeT commanders, Saifullah (alias Sajid Jutt) and Abu Qatal (alias Qatal Sindhi), who are believed to have acted as handlers for the attackers.

In July, the NIA's interrogation of an arrested suspect indicated the involvement of Pakistan-based handlers from the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba in the bus attack.
