BCCI announces Rs. 7.5 lakh match fee for IPL players
28 Sep 2024

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a big pay raise for Indian Premier League (IPL) players.

Starting from the 2025 season, each player will earn a match fee of ₹7.5 lakh per game, as revealed by outgoing BCCI Secretary Jay Shah.

This seems to be a a great way to acknowledge and appreciate the hard work and commitment of the players.

In addition to their match fee, players participating in every game of the season will earn an extra ₹1.05 crore on top of their contract.

However, the BCCI has set aside ₹12.60 crore for each franchise for this initiative.

This move is being viewed as a huge incentive for the players and signifies a new chapter in the league's history.

This new incentive scheme is BCCI's way to keep players hooked on the IPL.

This is a well-timed decision, especially with many players, notably international stars, leaving the IPL mid-season due to national team commitments.

Plus, it's a win-win for young players too, becasue if they're picked at the base price and play all the matches, they'll earn more than their initial contract amount.

Test rewards

Earlier this year, the BCCI shared exciting news: Test cricketers participating in at least 75% of the scheduled matches in a season would receive an additional ₹45 lakh for each game played.

So, if a player played in 10 Tests in a season, they could rake in an additional ₹4.50 crore, on top of their usual ₹1.5 crore match fee (which is ₹15 lakh per game).

Significant earnings boost for base price players

A player participating in all 14 league matches this season will earn ₹1.05 crore solely from match fees.

This represents a significant increase, especially for those signed near their base prices during the auction.

In 2024, the minimum base price was ₹20 lakh for uncapped players and ₹50 lakh for capped players.

Meanwhile, according to BCCI sources, the mega auction is scheduled for late November or early December.
