The poll also found that Americans believe the Republican Party is more capable of addressing the country's most pressing issues.

By a margin of 46% to 41%, respondents indicated that they trust the GOP over the Democrats to handle significant problems.

The top concerns currently identified by Americans are areas typically favored by Republicans, including the economy (24%), immigration (22%), government (17%), and inflation (15%).

In terms of economic and international matters, Americans currently give the Republican Party a six-percentage-point advantage (50% to 44%) as the party they believe would do a better job of keeping the country prosperous.

The GOP also holds a significant 14-point lead (54% to 40%) as the party Americans think is better equipped to protect the nation from terrorism and other global threats.

This perception has been consistent since 2002, except for 2007 and 2012.

Gallup's Economic Confidence Index currently stands at -28, indicating a negative sentiment among Americans about the economy.

This rating is derived from only 22% of Americans describing current economic conditions as "excellent" or "good," compared to 48% who rate them as "poor."

Additionally, 32% believe the economy is improving, while a significant 62% think it's worsening.
