5 protein-rich foods that flush out bad cholesterol from the veins and improve heart health

Protein is a very important diet that helps in building muscles and strengthening the body, if the foods related to it can reduce cholesterol then it will also be beneficial for heart health. 

High Cholesterol: Cholesterol is a type of fat found in your blood. Although cholesterol is needed for body function, too much of bad cholesterol i.e. LDL can increase the risk of heart disease. If you eat too much oily foods, LDL in the veins will increase which is dangerous. According to nutritionist Nikhil Vats, you can improve heart health by making positive changes in your diet. For this, you should eat some protein rich foods which can help a lot in reducing the level of bad cholesterol. 

1. Fatty Fish 

Fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines are not only rich in protein, but are also rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s are known to reduce inflammation and triglyceride levels, which can help lower bad cholesterol. Eating one serving of fatty fish a week can help balance your cholesterol levels, as can increasing your protein intake.

2. Legumes and Beans

Beans, lentils and chickpeas are rich plant-based sources of protein and fiber. Fiber, especially soluble fiber, helps reduce the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream. Legumes are low in saturated fats, making them a healthy alternative to animal protein. Adding lentils or chickpeas to your diet can help improve cholesterol levels and overall heart health.

3. Soy products

Soybeans and soy-based foods such as tofu, edamame and tempeh are protein rich and are known to reduce LDL levels. Soy is an excellent plant-based protein that is low in saturated fat. Many studies show that consuming about 25 grams of soy protein every day can reduce bad cholesterol by 4-6%.

4. Nuts and seeds

Nuts like almonds, walnuts and chia seeds are rich in protein, healthy fats and fibre. These foods are beneficial for lowering cholesterol as they contain unsaturated fats, which help lower LDL while increasing good cholesterol. Eating a handful of nuts daily will improve cholesterol levels. 

5. Quinoa

Quinoa is a plant-based protein that contains all 9 essential amino acids. It is also rich in fibre, which helps manage cholesterol by lowering LDL levels. Quinoa is often touted as an alternative to rice.
