It was such a horrific murder that even the police officers were shocked to see it. When the door of the room was opened, the first thing the police saw were toes. Seeing the scene, they realized that something very gruesome had happened there. As they stepped forward, they found the bodies of two women, whose ages were between 28 and 32 years. Several bullets were fired on both of them and the crime scene was such that anyone's soul would tremble after seeing it. There was blood all over the room.
These bodies were of 28-year-old Kandice Majors and 32-year-old Terri Sibeck, who lived in West Frankfort, Illinois. This double murder came to light when Terri's aunt came to her house in the morning after not receiving her phone call and was shocked to see blood on the door. As the police started investigating, they realized that there were no signs of forced entry into the house and no vandalism had been done.
What exactly happened that night?Although the car and credit cards were missing, the cash and valuables had been left untouched. This convinced them that the killers were acquaintances. The police then searched for clues, connected the dots and arrested Afton Ferris, a 19-year-old woman living in the house, and her 29-year-old boyfriend, Michael Schallert, for the murder of the women.
Now the question was what happened between these four that night? Kandis and Terry had given shelter to this couple in their house, then why did they kill them? When the police arrested Acton and Michael and started questioning them, a shocking story came to light. A story in which the accusation of petty theft destroyed the lives of two or four people.
Theft of CD and ladies' topThis story begins in the year 2008 when Kandis and Terry met Afton and Michael through a common friend. Soon the four became good friends. Afton and Michael did not have their own house, so after some time both of them shifted to Kandis and Terry's house.
However, within just a month, the relationship between these four turned sour when Kandice and Terry accused the couple of theft. The theft was not very big but of some music CDs and ladies tops. It was the day of 18 October 2009, when both of them scolded Afton and Michael and threw them out of their house. However, the matter was not going to end there only.
Drank alcohol at a friend's house and then took his lifeThat same night Afton and Michael went to a friend's house and drank a lot of alcohol there. After this, both of them took a semi-automatic pistol and returned to Kandis and Terry's house. Both of them said that they had come only to collect their remaining belongings. Both of them had planned to rob them and run away to take revenge for their insult. But, everything changed after reaching there.
As soon as Michael went to his room, Kandice once again started abusing him for the theft. Meanwhile, Afton saw that Kandice was trying to call the police from her mobile. She immediately ran towards him and pulled him inside the room. Here Michael took out a pistol and fired bullets at Kandice.
The whole incident was written in a poemWhen Terry reached there after hearing the noise, Michael fired on her as well. He was so furious that he fired several bullets on both the women. After committing this double murder, Michael and Afton fled to Colorado. However, the police reached them arrested them, and recovered blood-stained clothes, credit cards of the deceased, IDs, and a semi-automatic pistol from them.
In this case, the police were shocked when they found a poem written by Afton on the spot. In this poem, he mentions the crime and his subsequent escape. This poem became terrifying evidence of their crime in court. A case of double murder, robbery, and forced entry into the house was filed against both of them and in 2011 the court sentenced them to life imprisonment.
