Mumbai Toll Tax: Before the assembly elections in Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde's government has taken a big decision and announced the removal of toll tax. Giving a big relief to the people coming and going to Mumbai, the government has decided to remove the toll tax from today. The government has decided to remove the toll tax for light vehicles at all the five toll plazas built at the entry points in Mumbai. This decision of the government will benefit about 2.8 lakh vehicles daily. At the same time, by removing the toll tax, people passing through these roads daily will save a good amount of money.

Toll free for these vehicles from today

Before the Maharashtra elections, the Eknath Shinde-led state government has exempted light motor vehicles from toll tax at all 5 toll booths for entry into Mumbai. People coming to Mumbai in small vehicles will not have to pay toll tax from today. This will benefit the most those who travel to and from Mumbai daily for work. According to the information given by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), small vehicles passing through all the five toll booths located at LBS Road, Eastern Express Highway in Mulund, Airoli Creek Bridge, Western Express Highway in Dahisar and Vashi Creek Bridge have been exempted from toll tax. About 2.8 lakh light motor vehicles will benefit from this decision.

How much will you save by removing toll tax?

The government has made toll free for small vehicles and cars at Dahisar, Mulund, Thane, Airoli and Vashi toll plazas. However, toll collection on heavy motor vehicles (HMV) will continue as before. Vehicles have to pass through these five toll plazas to enter Mumbai. Small vehicles have to pay toll tax ranging from Rs 45 to Rs 75 at these toll plazas. If you pass through any of these toll plazas by car, you have to pay a toll tax of at least Rs 45. If you pass through these toll plazas even five days a week, then it means you spend 45*5= ₹225 in a week. That means you spend ₹11700 in a year only as toll tax. Similarly, people driving SUVs have to pay ₹75 as toll tax at these toll plazas. That means if you go to office even for 5 days a week, you spend about Rs 375 every week and Rs 19500 in a year. By removing the toll tax, you can save this amount completely.
