A man and his family members in Sultanpuri, Delhi have been accused of plotting to kill their twin newborn daughters. Serious allegations of dowry harassment, gender preference, and infanticide have been made in the case. Know what is the whole matter.

Delhi: A man and four members of his family in Sultanpuri in the national capital have been accused of conspiring to murder their newborn twin daughters. According to a report, the Delhi Police, in an 800-page charge sheet filed in the Rohini court in August, revealed that the family was unhappy with the birth of the girls and deliberately showed negligence in their care before allegedly killing and burying them to hide their crime.

The family was upset due to the birth of twin daughters.

Puja and Neeraj Solanki were blessed with twins on May 30, 2024, at a hospital in Rohtak, Haryana. However, they were murdered a few days later on June 1. Neeraj and his family picked up Puja and the newborns from the hospital on the pretext of taking them to her parent's home in Ismaila, Rohtak. Instead of taking Puja to her parents' home, they took her to Sultanpuri, where both the babies were allegedly murdered and buried.

Police claim in the charge sheet that the murder of both was pre-planned

The chargesheet claims that the crime was premeditated, with the family depriving the infants of necessary medical and nutritional care. The girls' father Neeraj, identified as the prime accused, neglected the infants, helped kill them, and buried their bodies without informing his wife. Her father Vijendra Solanki assisted in burying the bodies of the newborns, while her mother Chand Kaur handed over the babies to Neeraj for the act. Her brother Dinesh and sister-in-law Monika are also involved in the crime.

Allegations of dowry and gender preference

Puja, a BSc graduate, married Neeraj on February 2, 2022. She alleged that she faced constant harassment for dowry. The chargesheet also mentions the family's preference for a boy. During pregnancy, Puja was pressured to undergo a sex determination test, which she refused fearing an adverse result. The chargesheet highlights deliberate steps taken by the family to hide their actions.

Destroyed the evidence, and buried the bodies in a secret place

According to reports the babies were buried secretly and destroyed to prevent evidence from being exposed. The case came to light in June, bringing to light the grim realities of gender discrimination and dowry-related violence still prevalent in some sections of society. The accused, including Neeraj, his parents Vijendra and Chand Kaur, his brother Dinesh, and sister-in-law Monika, have been charged under several sections related to murder, foeticide, infanticide, dowry harassment, and common intention.
