With the help of hormone replacement therapy, many people undergo sex changes every year, the latest case is that of the child of former cricketer Sanjay Bangar. Why is gender change done?

What Is Hormone Replacement Therapy: Sanjay Bangar's daughter Anaaya has openly admitted on social media how she has gone through hormonal transformation. She was a boy at the time of birth, parents named him 'Aryan'. However, in the year 2023, he underwent Hormone Replacement Therapy, which completely changed his identity. Let's try to understand what HRT is and why do people go for sex change?

What is hormone replacement therapy?

According to the National Institutes of Health, hormone replacement therapy (HRT), also known as gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT), is a medical treatment that helps transgender people align their physical characteristics with their gender identity. For transgender women, hormone therapy aims to give a more female appearance by changing fat distribution, promoting breast development and reducing male-pattern hair growth.

How does HRT work?

Hormone replacement therapy mainly involves estrogen, progesterone or a combination of both. For women who have had hysterectomy, estrogen therapy is often prescribed alone, as progesterone is primarily needed to protect the lining of the uterus from potential cancer risks.

For women who still have a uterus, combined hormone therapy is usually recommended to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer. Hormones can be administered in different ways, such as medicines, patches, gels, creams or even implants, which give flexibility based on personal needs and preferences.

How long does therapy take?

The duration of hormone replacement therapy varies according to everyone's needs and health goals. For many people, relief from symptoms starts within a few weeks, although it can take up to 3 months to feel the full effect.

Short-term HRT is often recommended to manage menopause symptoms, which usually lasts for 1 to 5 years. However, some people may require long-term treatment under close medical supervision, depending on persistent symptoms and health factors. The ideal length and type of HRT should be aligned with a healthcare provider to balance the benefits with any potential risks, thereby ensuring safety for everyone.

Why do people change sex?

Now the question arises, why is sex changed in the first place? What is the problem with the gender in which nature has created? Gender change is deep and personal, which is related to a person's emotional, mental, and social needs.

1. Gender dysphoria

In this, a person feels a deep difference between the gender determined from his birth and his real identity. This difference can cause restlessness, tension and depression in that person. Therefore, many people try to match their physical appearance with their inner identity through surgery or hormone therapy. Understand that someone is born as a boy, but inside he feels like a girl, so he resorts to sex change.

2. Social Acceptance:

Social awareness has increased a lot more than before, due to which acceptance is also being seen more in society. Earlier it was difficult to mention such things, but now people openly change sex and do not even feel embarrassed.

3. Identity Change Many

people have some such events in the past, which they want to forget, but due to the existing identity, that identity is exposed again and again. In such a situation, if someone changes sex, then the identity changes and it becomes easy to forget the past
