What happened 51 years ago, due to which Israel is on high alert

On the occasion of Yom Kippur, the most important festival celebrated in Israel, roads and markets were closed from the afternoon onwards. This was done because, after 51 years, the country is again embroiled in an active war on this festival day. Yom Kippur is considered the biggest festival of Judaism, in 1973, the Arab-Israeli war started on the day of Yom Kippur.

On 6 October 1973, Egypt and Syria attacked Israel. This day was the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur, and along with this the holy month of Islam, Ramadan, had also begun. This war lasted from 6 October to 25 October and after 51 years, the situation is similar again, due to which a shutdown was taken in Israel once again in memory of this war.

Missiles rain down as Yom Kippur begins

Security agencies across the country were on high alert from the beginning of the day. Because the Israeli army continues war operations in Lebanon and Gaza and the situation remains serious amid continuous rocket firing and increasing tension with Iran. Also, special alert systems have been installed across the country to warn people. More than 120 rockets were fired on Israel in the first hours of the holiday, most of which were destroyed in the air and some fell into open fields.

51 years ago, a major war took place during Yom Kippur, in which Egyptian troops attacked Sinai and Syrian troops attacked the Golan Heights. This war took place on the holiest day for the Jews. In this, Arab forces were hoping to regain the territory lost during the Third Arab-Israeli War in 1967. Once again, Arab countries suffered huge losses in this war and Israel captured more territory than before.
