Deadly Explosions Outside Brazil's Supreme Court Raise Security Concerns Ahead of G20: Two explosions outside Brazil’s Supreme Court in Brasilia on Wednesday evening resulted in the death of a man and forced an evacuation of the building. The blasts, which occurred shortly after the court’s session ended, have heightened security concerns just days before Brazil is set to host global leaders for the G20 summit.

The explosions were heard at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time. Following the blasts, all justices and staff were evacuated from the court safely. Authorities confirmed that the explosions took place in the heart of Brasilia, near the Supreme Court, the presidential palace, and the parliament.

Brasilia’s deputy governor said the blasts happened after a man tried to enter the court but was stopped by authorities. Police later discovered a body outside the building, though they have yet to provide further details.

Jorge Messias, Brazil's solicitor general, condemned the incident as a deliberate attack and promised a full investigation into the explosions. The Supreme Court is located in the Plaza de los Tres Poderes, directly across from the presidential palace. Local reports also indicated that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had left the area shortly before the explosions occurred.

The blasts came just a week before Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit Brasilia, following the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. This explosion follows a period of political unrest in the same plaza last year, when supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro stormed key government buildings in a failed attempt to block President Lula’s electoral victory.
