BREAKING! Secunderabad-Shalimar Express Derails Near Howrah; No Injuries Reported

Early this morning, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah, West Bengal. The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. near Nalpur, approximately 40 kilometers from Kolkata, as the train shifted from the middle to the outer tracks.

Officials from South Eastern Railway reported that a parcel van and two coaches of the weekly express train, designated 22850, derailed at Nalpur Station in the Kharagpur Division. Fortunately, no casualties or major injuries were reported among the passengers.

Relief trains, medical aid, and buses from nearby Santragachhi and Kharagpur have been dispatched to assist those stranded, with alternative transport arranged to take passengers to their intended destinations.

This recent derailment of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express follows two other train derailments in India last week, highlighting ongoing safety concerns across the railway network. In Tamil Nadu, a Bodinayakkanur-bound express train experienced a wheel derailment, which disrupted services along that route. Meanwhile, in Assam, rail operations were significantly affected under the Lumding-Badarpur hill section of the Northeast Frontier Railway. A goods train wagon derailed in this section, causing delays and halting passenger and freight services as railway teams worked to restore traffic.

These incidents raise fresh concerns over rail safety and infrastructure maintenance, especially as the country continues to expand its railway operations to serve a growing population. Indian Railways has been increasing inspections and investing in upgrades, yet these recent derailments emphasize the need for enhanced vigilance, especially in hilly and high-traffic zones.
