Centre Launches Enhanced e-Migrate Portal to Support Overseas Workers

The Indian government has introduced the e-Migrate web portal and a mobile app, both available on government app stores and Google Play, to improve the overseas employment processes for Indian workers.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar launched the upgraded e-Migrate portal and Mobile App V2.0, highlighting the government's dedication to protecting the rights of Indian workers abroad. "It gives me great pleasure to launch a revamped version of the e-Migrate portal, which is more than just a digital platform—it is a beacon of hope and a symbol of our commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of our workers in foreign lands," Jaishankar said during the launch ceremony.

He noted that the enhancements to the portal align with the changing dynamics of global migration and will assist Indians studying, residing, or working overseas. Worker welfare is a key focus of India’s foreign policy, especially for those in Gulf nations. Jaishankar acknowledged the challenges faced by migrant workers and mentioned the deployment of labor attachés in embassies to address grievances effectively.

The upgraded portal offers 24/7 multilingual helplines for immediate assistance and includes a feedback system to resolve concerns quickly.

This initiative is part of the government’s commitment to simplify migration procedures, ensure transparency, and better support Indians seeking job opportunities abroad. The e-Migrate platform helps workers with various tasks, including registration, recruitment tracking, and access to information about authorized employers and recruitment agencies. It also provides a grievance redressal mechanism, giving workers reliable channels to report issues and seek assistance while employed abroad.

Job scams targeting Indians have been increasing, with fraudsters using fake job offers to lure victims, often promising overseas employment or lucrative positions. These scammers exploit digital platforms, masquerading as recruiters or agents, and ask for advance payments for visas, processing fees, or travel arrangements.

Victims often realize the job offers were fraudulent only after losing money or arriving in foreign countries without valid employment. Countries like Malaysia, UAE, and Thailand have reported incidents where workers were stuck in illegal jobs or unsafe conditions. The government advises job seekers to verify offers through official channels, such as the e-Migrate portal, and to be cautious of dubious agents.
