Congress Leader Claims Voters in Jammu and Kashmir Want to Oust BJP

Send Push

Srinagar: As early trends from the Election Commission indicate a lead for the National Conference-Congress alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Syed Suhail Bukhari expressed confidence that the people have decided to remove the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from power. He emphasized that the INDIA alliance is poised to form a government with a significant majority.

Bukhari stated, "We had already told that the way a huge number of people voted, they had decided to oust BJP from here. An L-G was imposed on people, and they were kept deprived of their basic rights. The election is happening after 10 years. People were angry. The INDIA alliance will form a government in J&K with a huge margin."

National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah also spoke out, warning the BJP not to "pull off any tricks" if the people's mandate goes against them. He expressed optimism about the chances of the NC-Congress alliance winning the election. "We have hope that we will win. The decision has been made by the voters of Jammu and Kashmir, and we will know the results by this afternoon," Abdullah told reporters.

He called for transparency, stating, "If the people's mandate is against BJP, they shouldn't pull off any tricks." Abdullah noted that his party partnered with Congress to secure a win. After a gap of ten years, the elections in Jammu and Kashmir have generated significant interest. He mentioned that it is too early to determine whether they will need support from parties like the PDP.

"Neither have we asked for any support from them nor have we received any support. Let the results come. Not sure why we are so restless; right now, nobody has the number. We are not in need of their support. Once the results are out, we will analyze," he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress, part of the INDIA alliance, contested the assembly elections together, while the PDP and BJP ran their campaigns independently. The elections for the 90 constituencies were held in three phases on September 18, September 25, and October 1.
