Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh Confident of Forming Government in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh expressed confidence in the party's prospects of forming a government in both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir following the assembly polls. In an interview on Monday, the Rajya Sabha MP emphasized critical issues, including justice for soldiers, farmers, and wrestlers, rallying around the slogan "Jai jawan, jai kisaan, jai pehelwan" to highlight perceived injustices in the state.

"It is clear that the Congress government will be formed in Haryana. There is a significant storm brewing against the BJP. Our slogan for Haryana addresses the injustices faced by jawans, farmers, and discrimination against wrestlers," Ramesh stated.

He reiterated the party's demand for a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP), citing the farmers' protests, and criticized the Prime Minister for his silence during the protests. Ramesh also reiterated Congress's commitment to loan waivers, the removal of the 50 percent reservation limit, and the necessity for the Centre to conduct a caste census as mandated by the Indian Constitution.

"When it comes to MSP, we are asking for a legal guarantee, a demand echoed by farmers during their protests that lasted three years, during which 700 farmers lost their lives. The Prime Minister remained silent, and only after they withdrew the three black laws was there any resolution. Our core issues are the legal guarantee of MSP, the demand for loan waivers, and conducting a caste census," he asserted.

Regarding the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Ramesh expressed optimism about forming a coalition government with the National Conference and emphasized the need for restoring full statehood to the region. On a potential alliance with the People's Democratic Party (PDP), he clarified that while the PDP is part of the INDIA alliance, Congress is focused solely on its electoral partnership with the National Conference.

"The National Conference-Congress government will be formed; the atmosphere there supports us. Our only demand is the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, and we will fight for it," Ramesh stated.

He also responded to Union Minister Amit Shah's recent remarks regarding Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, advising Shah to focus on his responsibilities, including the situation in Manipur. Additionally, Ramesh called for the resignation of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on moral grounds following a Bengaluru court ruling that led to an FIR against her in the now-scrapped electoral bonds case.
