In a major crackdown on narcotics and criminals, the Delhi Police launched Operation Kavach 6.0, conducting simultaneous operations across 15 districts of the city. The operation covered 874 locations, resulting in the arrest of 140 narco offenders in connection with 139 NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases.
A significant amount of drugs were seized during the operations. The Delhi Police recovered approximately 870.1 grams of heroin, 193.8 kg of ganja, 16.1 grams of cocaine, and 404 grams of MDMA. In addition, the police seized cash worth Rs 34,420, one gold chain weighing 20 grams, and vehicles including a motorcycle, a tempo, and a scooter.
Furthermore, 203 cases were filed under the Delhi Excise Act, leading to the arrest of 202 individuals. The authorities also confiscated 244 cans of beer, nearly 30 quarters, and 198.75 liters of illicit liquor. In an effort to combat illegal arms, 14 individuals were arrested in 14 separate arms act cases. Six country-made pistols, nine live cartridges, and eight knives were recovered.
The operation also saw 1,224 individuals placed into preventive custody. Launched in May 2023, Operation Kavach targets both street-level drug dealers and high-level traffickers. This strategic approach combines efforts from both ends to effectively disrupt narcotic trade in the city.
As of August 31, 2024, the Delhi Police has arrested 961 narco offenders in 695 NDPS cases, seizing large quantities of drugs including 65.086 kg of heroin, 1.912 kg of cocaine, 2,258.379 kg of ganja, 102.345 kg of opium, 42.606 kg of charas, and 73.06 kg of poppy head.
