Disappearance of KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur Sparks Arrest Rumors Amid Islamabad Protests

Islamabad: The sudden disappearance of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has fueled rumors of his arrest as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continued its protest in Islamabad for a second consecutive day on Saturday. The situation has raised numerous questions about his whereabouts, with tensions escalating in the capital.

In an interview with Geo News’ "Naya Pakistan," Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, the KP CM’s information advisor, revealed that CM Gandapur was last seen being escorted by his staff when Rangers entered KP House in Islamabad. “We would have known if Ali Amin Gandapur had departed for Peshawar,” Saif noted, adding that no one has been able to contact the chief minister since.

Saif further shared that he spoke with Gandapur via satellite phone earlier in the morning, but as of now, the chief minister’s whereabouts remain unknown. Addressing rumors of his possible arrest, Saif emphasized that Gandapur had been granted bail by the Peshawar High Court, and arresting him would be considered contempt of court. He also highlighted that Article 248 of the Constitution provides certain exemptions to elected officials.

Earlier on Saturday, large contingents of police and Rangers entered KP House in Islamabad, where Gandapur had arrived, fueling speculation of his arrest. However, government sources later denied reports that law enforcement had taken the chief minister into custody.

Islamabad remains tense as protests continue. The PTI, founded by Imran Khan, has been demonstrating to demand the independence of the judiciary and the release of their leader, Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail for over a year. The party's attempt to hold a protest at D-Chowk, despite a ban on political gatherings under Section 144, led to clashes between law enforcement and party workers.

Police fired tear gas at the protesters as convoys attempted to enter Islamabad, while PTI workers retaliated using slingshots, creating a volatile situation in the capital as security forces attempted to maintain order ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting.
