External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar met with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in Washington D.C. to discuss the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) and deepen high-tech cooperation between India and the US. Their discussions covered resilient supply chains, semiconductors, business promotion, and advanced technology collaboration.

EAM Jaishankar shared details of the meeting on social media, saying, "Great to see Commerce Secretary Raimondo today in Washington DC. We discussed semiconductors, iCET, critical minerals, trusted partnerships, and supply chain resiliency. Value the strides we are making in our tech collaboration and economic partnership."

This is Jaishankar's first visit to Washington since the Modi government was re-elected for a third term. His meeting with Raimondo occurred just a day before his scheduled talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The two officials also discussed the US-India CEO Forum and the US-India Commercial Dialogue, which aim to boost trade and investment between the two nations. Both ministers expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) and reaffirmed their commitment to further operationalize the agreements under the IPEF.

The IPEF, launched in May 2022, is a multilateral economic initiative involving 13 countries, designed to foster stronger ties in the Indo-Pacific region. Over the past year, member countries have been engaged in discussions to define key pillars of the framework.

In addition to his meeting with Blinken, EAM Jaishankar will meet other senior US officials and participate in an event hosted by the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (CEIP), where he will discuss the future of US-India relations.

During his interaction at CEIP, Jaishankar will join CEIP President Mariano Florentino Cuellar to discuss the growing strategic partnership between India and the US. CEIP has highlighted India's increasing importance in shaping global affairs, particularly in the context of US foreign policy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2023 state visit to the US, along with his recent meeting with President Joe Biden, was noted as further evidence of the strengthening ties between the two nations. Both leaders recently met in Delaware, where they discussed key regional and global issues.

The upcoming event at CEIP will also explore India's evolving global leadership role and examine areas for further collaboration, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, democracy, security, and trade.
