Hollywood actress Eva Longoria has revealed that her family has left the United States and now divides its time between Mexico and Spain. The move, she shared in an interview with Marie Claire for its November cover story, reflects her concerns about post-pandemic societal changes, homelessness, high taxes in California, and the re-election of Donald Trump.
Longoria acknowledged her privilege in being able to relocate, stating, “Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country.”
The Desperate Housewives star, known for her advocacy for women and Latinos in Democratic Party politics, has been actively involved in national and local campaigns since 2012. She has spoken at Democratic National Conventions and supported Kamala Harris in her recent presidential campaign. Notably, she adopted the Spanish version of Barack Obama's famous slogan, "Yes, we can" ("Si se puede"), reimagining it as "She se puede" to champion Harris’s candidacy.
Reflecting on Trump's victory over Harris in the recent election, Longoria expressed her disappointment. “If he keeps his promises, it’s going to be a scary place,” she said. She also admitted that Trump’s 2016 win shattered her belief that “the best person wins” in politics.
Longoria, a ninth-generation Texan, moved to California in her twenties. Her career soared with a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Gabrielle Solis in Desperate Housewives. Recently, she has hosted documentaries like Searching for Mexico and Searching for Spain.
She and her husband, José "Pepe" Bastón, president of Mexican broadcaster Televisa, share a six-year-old son, Santiago. Bastón also has three children from a previous marriage. Of her time in Los Angeles, Longoria said, “It just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
