Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been named the heir to the Jamnagar royal family. The announcement was made by Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji Maharaj, designating Jadeja as the new Jamsaheb of Nawanagar, now known as Jamnagar, located on the southern shores of the Gulf of Kutch in Gujarat.

Ajay Jadeja, 53, is a descendant of the royal family of Jamnagar. Born in Jamnagar in 1971, his father, Daulatsinhji Jadeja, is a cousin of Shatrusalyasinhji, who officially made the announcement through a letter. Jadeja's royal lineage includes the legendary cricketers KS Ranjitsinhji and KS Duleepsinhji, after whom the prestigious Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy are named.

Jadeja is well-known for his illustrious cricketing career, having captained the Indian cricket team in 13 One Day Internationals (ODIs). Under his leadership, India won 8 of these matches. Over the course of his international career, he played in 196 ODIs, amassing 5,359 runs at an average of 37.47, including six centuries. Jadeja also played 15 Test matches, scoring 576 runs.

After retiring from international cricket, Jadeja became a cricket commentator and expert. He briefly returned to domestic cricket in 2013, leading Haryana in the Ranji Trophy, where he captained the team during Sachin Tendulkar's final Ranji Trophy match.

With his appointment as the Jamsaheb of Jamnagar, Ajay Jadeja takes on a new royal role, blending his rich family heritage with his celebrated cricketing legacy.
