Final constituency results will follow soon after, determining the political landscape for the state’s next term.
This election marks intense competition, primarily between the BJP and Congress. The BJP faces significant anti-incumbency pressure due to public grievances over socio-economic issues. The Congress, seeking to capitalize on this discontent, is aiming to return to power after a decade-long hiatus.
Exit polls released earlier, including the Bhaskar Reporters’ Poll, suggest Congress may win between 44-54 seats, while the BJP may secure only 19-29 seats. Regional parties, including the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), are expected to struggle, potentially seeing their influence reduced to just a couple of seats.
Within Congress, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda leads the race for the top post, though Kumari Selja and Randeep Singh Surjewala have also expressed interest. Meanwhile, the BJP has reaffirmed that Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will retain his position if the party secures a win.
In terms of election security, Kurukshetra Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal reported on Monday that the Election Commission has implemented a robust three-tier security system to safeguard the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). EVMs have been stored in four secure strong rooms at Kurukshetra University, with constant surveillance in place.
