Imagine what would happen if your car's brakes failed

Send Push

Often people suddenly go on a long journey without checking the car. But this can be a dangerous mistake. Many times such incidents have come to light when the brakes fail during the journey and the driver does not even know. In such a situation, the risk of accident increases. However, if you work carefully and take some steps, then major accidents can be avoided. If you also go on a surprise trip without any preparation, then instead of panicking in case of brake failure, you should keep these important things in mind.

Don't panic; understand the situation:  First and foremost, don't panic. Panic can distract you, which can make the situation worse. So, stay calm and try to control the situation. Be alert while driving and take quick decisions.

Apply the handbrake slowly. If the brakes fail, do not apply the handbrake immediately. Pull it slowly so that the car's speed can slow down gradually. Applying the handbrake suddenly can cause loss of control over the car, which can lead to an accident. Therefore, lift the handbrake slowly so that the car can slow down in a controlled manner.

Shift into a low gear: If you are driving a manual car, immediately shift into a low gear (such as 2nd or 1st gear). This will help slow down the car, which is called "engine braking." If you are driving an automatic car, you can shift into L or D1 gear.

Use the horn and lights: If you are in traffic and the brakes fail, immediately blow the horn and flash the headlights. This will let other drivers know that you are in trouble, and they will try to give you way. This will give you time and space to stop your car in a safe place.

Find a safe route: Always keep your eyes on the road and look for a place where you can stop your car safely. Try to slow down and stop in places like an open field, an empty road, or the side of the road. This will reduce the risk of an accident.

Pump the brake pedal: If the brakes have completely failed, pump the brake pedal repeatedly. Sometimes the brake system loses pressure, and pumping the pedal can restore that pressure. This may make the brakes work for a little while and give you a chance to stop the car.

Hit it lightly in a safe place. If the car is not stopping in any way and the risk of an accident is increasing, then choose a safe place where you can hit the car at a slow speed. Use this only as a last resort and turn the car towards an easy place, such as bushes or an open field.

Don't turn off the engine: Never turn off the engine while the car is running. This will cause the steering and power assist to fail, making the car more difficult to control. With the engine running, you will still have steering and brake control, allowing you to steer the car in the right direction.
