Indian-American actress Poorna Jagannathan has joined the cast of HBO’s much-awaited drama series Lanterns, an adaptation of the DC Comics' Green Lantern. The series is being developed by a talented team, including Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King.
Jagannathan, known for her standout performances in critically acclaimed series such as The Night Of and Never Have I Ever, will play the recurring role of Zoe. The show will feature a strong ensemble cast, including Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, and Garret Dillahunt.
In Lanterns, the story follows new recruit John Stewart (played by Pierre) and seasoned veteran Lantern Hal Jordan (played by Chandler) as they work together to solve a murder mystery on Earth. Jagannathan’s character, Zoe, is described as confident, composed, and sharp, navigating social circles dominated by powerful men with grace and cunning.
The eight-episode series is a collaborative effort between HBO, Warner Bros Television, and DC Studios. Mundy serves as the showrunner and is co-writing and executive producing alongside Lindelof and King. Recently, Jagannathan also starred in the Apple film Wolves, where she appeared alongside George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
Lanterns promises to bring a fresh, thrilling take on the Green Lantern mythos, with Jagannathan's role adding an exciting layer to the ensemble.
