The Israeli military announced on Monday (Nov 4) that it had killed a top Hezbollah commander responsible for leading rocket and anti-tank missile attacks on Israeli forces stationed in southern Lebanon.
The commander, identified as Abu Ali Rida, who oversaw Hezbollah’s activities in the Baraachit area of southern Lebanon, was “eliminated” in an airstrike, according to the military's statement. Although the exact timing of the strike was not disclosed, Israeli forces confirmed that Rida had been actively involved in planning and carrying out recent attacks against Israeli troops in the region.
In recent weeks, Israel has ramped up its operations against Hezbollah, targeting and killing several of the group’s militant commanders. This escalation comes amid an ongoing conflict that began in late September, when tensions between Israel and Hezbollah intensified following months of cross-border exchanges. During this period, Hezbollah has frequently launched rockets into northern Israel, a move seen as supporting the group’s ally in Gaza, Hamas.
In a message shared on its official Telegram channel, the IDF stated that Rida was behind recent rocket and anti-tank missile attacks directed at Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.
According to the IDF, Rida "was responsible for planning and executing rocket and anti-tank missile attacks on military troops and managed Hezbollah's operations in the region."
The conflict in Gaza has seen Israel engaged in its deadliest confrontation with Hamas following an attack by the Palestinian group on southern Israel on Oct 7 of the previous year.
