Send Push

It is natural to be proud of our civilization and culture, but despite this, nowadays the influence of Western culture is clearly visible in our lives. An example of this is celebrating birthdays by cutting cakes. In present times, people cut cakes after blowing out candles, but there is no mention anywhere in Sanatan Dharma that cakes should be cut to celebrate birthdays.

There is no mention of cutting cake on birthday in Sanatan Dharma

There is no mention of celebrating birthday by cutting cake in any scripture or Veda of Hinduism. According to astrology also, cutting cake after blowing out the candle is not considered auspicious. This does not mean that we should avoid celebrating birthdays; rather, in Sanatan culture, special methods have been described for this, which are considered very auspicious.

Why is blowing out a candle considered bad luck?

According to astrology, celebrating a birthday by blowing out candles can lead to negativity and ruin in life. Fire and light have special importance in Hinduism. Children of the house are also considered like lamps, and it is prayed that they always remain bright. That is why the tradition of blowing out candles is not considered auspicious in Sanatan Dharma, because it is like extinguishing the fire god. In Hindu tradition, it is considered good to reveal the fire instead of extinguishing it.

How to celebrate birthdays according to scriptures?

According to Sanatan Dharma, celebrating birthdays according to Panchang instead of the English calendar is considered more auspicious. The reason for this is that energy waves flow in our body according to the date of birth. Still, if you want to celebrate your birthday according to the English calendar, then some things should be kept in mind:

Aarti must be performed: Aarti must be performed for the person whose birthday it is. This removes the impurities of the body and gives the blessings of Agni Dev. Take blessings of the elders: On your birthday, touch the feet of your elders and seek their blessings, and visit the temple to have darshan of the Lord. Avoid non-vegetarian food: Stay away from non-vegetarian food on this day and eat only pure food. Give donations and gifts: On your birthday, donate to the poor and give some gifts to small children. If you are able, then doing Tuladan is also considered very auspicious.
