Veteran actor Ashok Kumar, fondly called Dada Muni, made his mark in Bollywood for a long time. Although he came to films by chance, it would be more correct to call it a game of fate. He started his film career in the year 1936 with the film 'Jeevan Naiya'.

Life of Ashok Kumar

Ashok Kumar's real name was Kumud Kumar Ganguly. He was born in a Bengali family in Bhagalpur. He did his studies from Prayagraj University in Uttar Pradesh, where he met Shashadhar Mukherjee. A deep friendship developed between the two and later Ashok Kumar got his sister married to Shashadhar Mukherjee.

How do become an actor?

Ashok Kumar got the opportunity to enter films quite suddenly. Shashadhar worked in Bombay Talkies at that time and he called Ashok Kumar to Bombay. In the year 1936, Bombay Talkies was making the film 'Jeevan Naiya', in which Najm ul Hasan was first cast. But when he refused to work in the film, the owner of Bombay Talkies chose Ashok Kumar for this role. The film proved to be a big hit after its release and thus began Ashok Kumar's film journey.

Starting a production house

After 'Jeevan Naiya', Ashok Kumar worked with Devika Rani in the film 'Achhut Kanya', which was a huge hit of that time. These films gave him a distinct identity in the industry. After his acting, he also started his career as a film producer. He made many films under Ashok Kumar Productions, but the first film 'Samaj' flopped. Even after trying for three years continuously, he did not get success and his production house was closed. Ashok Kumar received many big honors for his amazing film journey. He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke and Padma Shri Awards. On 10 December 2001, he said goodbye to this world, but his memories and contributions will always remain alive in our hearts.
