Nokia Secures Major 5G Expansion Deal with Bharti Airtel in India

New Delhi: Nokia has signed a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar deal with Bharti Airtel to expand its 4G and 5G network infrastructure across key cities and states in India. The announcement highlights the continued partnership between the two companies, which spans over 20 years.

Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy its cutting-edge equipment, including base stations, baseband units, and Massive MIMO radios, to enhance Airtel's 5G network capacity and coverage. The deployment also includes modernizing Airtel's existing 4G network with advanced multiband radios and baseband equipment that can support 5G connectivity.

Additionally, Airtel will utilize Nokia's MantaRay Network Management system, which employs AI-driven tools for intelligent network monitoring, optimization, and technical support.

Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that the collaboration will ensure a future-ready network infrastructure and deliver an exceptional user experience to customers.

Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO of Nokia, expressed his satisfaction with the deal, saying it strengthens their long-standing relationship with Airtel. "Our advanced AirScale portfolio and AI-based services will significantly boost the energy efficiency of Airtel's network while delivering top-tier 5G capacity and quality service for users," he said.

Airtel, a global provider of communication solutions, serves over 550 million customers across 15 countries in India and Africa, with additional operations in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka through associate entities.
