India Commits to Strengthening Global Health, PM Modi Pledges Support to WHO Chief - Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to enhancing global health, expressing support for World Health Organisation (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, whom he affectionately refers to as ‘Tulsi Bhai’. His remarks came after Dr. Ghebreyesus thanked the Prime Minister and other leaders for their contributions during the inaugural WHO Investment Round held in Brazil.

In his post on social media, PM Modi emphasized India's active efforts in the health sector, particularly through the integration of technology. He highlighted the importance of a healthier planet, stating, "Dear Tulsi Bhai, A healthy planet is a better planet. India is working actively in this sector." He also emphasized that India is prioritizing technology integration and strengthening global collaboration in healthcare.

The WHO’s first-ever Investment Round, aimed at raising funds for its global health strategy, was held during the G20 Leaders' Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The event, which included global leaders, saw the raising of $1.7 billion for the WHO’s initiatives.

During the summit, world leaders pledged to address inequalities and committed to building a fairer, more sustainable world. They also underscored the WHO’s pivotal role in global health governance, emphasizing the necessity for stable and transparent financing.

The WHO Investment Round received strong backing from the leaders, with a focus on securing additional funding for the organisation’s programs. Dr. Ghebreyesus tweeted, "Investment in @WHO is an investment in global health security."

According to the WHO, the funding initiative has reached $3.8 billion out of the $7.1 billion goal, which will support the 14th General Programme of Work. This program aims to save 40 million lives over the next four years, marking a significant milestone in the fight for global health.
