Puducherry: Puducherry police have arrested Karaikal district deputy collector Johnson in the Sri Parvatheeswara Swamy temple land forgery case. The case came to light after complaints surfaced regarding the alleged illegal sale of temple land. Investigation revealed that a forged order was circulated on social media, falsely claiming that the temple land was allotted to the tourism department under the Smart City initiative.

Johnson said in his report that false documents were prepared by forging his signature and official seal, misleading buyers into believing that they were buying legitimate land. Hindu nationalist organisation Hindu Munnani filed a formal complaint with the district collector and Puducherry governor, alleging government and political interference. The police formed special teams and began investigating the case. During the investigation, two brokers—K. Sivaraman and P. Thirumalai Rajan—were arrested who fraudulently asked the victims to pay Rs 3 lakh each for land sale. The prime suspect, JCP Anand, who is the mastermind of this fraud, is still absconding. A lookout notice has been issued against him.

Another suspect in the case, G. Renuka, deputy surveyor of Karaikal Municipality, has also been arrested. She has been accused of playing a key role in the illegal sale of temple land. During interrogation, Renuka said that it was all done under the direction of Deputy Collector Johnson and admitted to forging the documents by misusing her official position.

The police investigation recovered fake documents and other material from Renuka's house, which proves that she was involved in the scheme. Johnson was arrested from his office and questioned for 15 hours at the women's police station. His mobile devices have also been seized. Senior Superintendent of Police Manish, who is investigating the case, termed it a "pre-planned criminal conspiracy" and said that the investigation is still on. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to trace other suspects involved in the case.
