Rahul Gandhi Pays Tribute to Guru Nanak and Birsa Munda, Celebrating Unity and Heritage

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extended heartfelt greetings on the 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism, and expressed respect for the legacy of tribal leader Birsa Munda. Observing the revered occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, Gandhi honored the teachings and life of Guru Nanak Dev, highlighting his message of unity, service, and goodwill.

In a social media post, Gandhi shared, "Tribute to Guru Nanak Dev ji on his birth anniversary. His life is a symbol of sacrifice, penance, service, and goodwill. His teachings of 'Sarbat da Bhala' (welfare for all) always guide us. Happy Guru Purnima to everyone." Guru Nanak Jayanti is a significant celebration in Sikhism, commemorating the birth of the first of the 10 Sikh Gurus. Each year, this day is celebrated with devotion, marked by gatherings, hymns from the Guru Granth Sahib, and acts of service such as langar meals in Gurdwaras.

Guru Nanak Dev, born in 1469 in what is now Nankana Sahib, Pakistan, is remembered for his teachings on equality and compassion. His legacy continues to inspire peace and unity worldwide.

Tribute to Birsa Munda's Contribution to the Tribal Community Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to Birsa Munda on the 150th anniversary of his birth, recognizing his pivotal role in India's tribal freedom movement. Known as "Dharti Aba" or "Father of the Earth," Birsa Munda led the Ulgulan rebellion, which inspired tribal communities in Chotanagpur to resist British rule.

Gandhi posted, "Respectful tributes to the tribal great hero, Dharti Aba Bhagwan Birsa Munda ji, on his birth anniversary. His struggle for tribal identity and his sacrifice to protect water, forests, and land will always inspire us." Birsa Munda's influence remains significant, as he championed the rights of his people and led a powerful movement for self-determination during British colonization.
