Raipur: At least seven Naxals were killed in an intense encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bastar region on Friday. The police have recovered the bodies of all seven deceased Naxals, along with a substantial cache of weapons, including AK-47 assault rifles and SLR (Self-Loading Rifles). This operation marks a significant blow to the insurgent group's presence in the area.

Inspector General (IG) of Bastar, P Sundarraj, confirmed the successful operation and stated that the encounter is still ongoing. The clash erupted in the dense Abhujmaad forest, a well-known Naxal stronghold, which lies along the border of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts. Security personnel launched the operation following intelligence reports about the movement and presence of Naxal cadres in the region. The security forces, consisting of a joint team of police and paramilitary personnel, engaged the Naxals in a fierce gun battle during the search operation. Despite the challenging terrain and forest cover, all the security personnel involved are reported to be safe.

This encounter comes as a part of the ongoing efforts to curb Naxal activity in the region, where insurgents have long been operating. The recovery of weapons suggests that the group was well-armed and prepared for conflict. Further details on the operation, as well as the identities of the deceased Naxals, are still awaited as the encounter continues. The operation highlights the continued tension in the Bastar region, a known hotspot for Naxal insurgency, and the persistent efforts of security forces to neutralize their presence.
