Sharad Pawar Calls for Immediate Seat-Sharing Decision in MVA Ahead of Maharashtra Polls

Send Push

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar has called for an urgent resolution regarding seat-sharing talks within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, expected later this year. However, Pawar clarified that he himself is not involved in the ongoing discussions on the matter.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Pawar emphasized that it would be inappropriate for him to comment on seat-sharing as he was not participating in the talks. Instead, NCP's Jayant Patil has been representing the party in these discussions. Pawar added that Congress' Nana Patole and Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut, along with other representatives, have been actively engaged in the dialogue. "I am not involved in the seat-sharing discussions, so it wouldn't be right for me to comment on it. Jayant Patil is representing us in these meetings. Congress' Nana Patole, Sanjay Raut, and others are handling the discussions," Pawar said. He noted that three to four meetings had already taken place, with progress made on certain issues, but more meetings are scheduled for October 7, 8, and 9 to resolve outstanding matters.

Pawar underscored the importance of finalizing the agreement promptly, stating, "I urge all parties involved to reach a decision as quickly as possible. The people of Maharashtra want change, and the current situation is in our favor. We must respect the public's sentiment." Pawar also addressed concerns about internal conflicts within the MVA, particularly regarding the Lok Sabha elections, where a disagreement occurred between Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) over candidate selection for the Sangli constituency. He downplayed the issue, explaining that the incident in Sangli was isolated and did not represent a broader conflict within the alliance.

"There was no major schism in the MVA during the Lok Sabha elections, except in Sangli. I don't know the exact details of what happened there, but the current discussions for the Assembly elections involve all three parties working together," Pawar said. When asked about speculation surrounding Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's decision not to contest from Baramati, Sharad Pawar responded with a hint of irony, "If he feels that he made a mistake by fighting against the family in the Lok Sabha elections, then you should ask him if he plans to repeat it in the Assembly." Pawar's statements reflect his focus on unity within the MVA and the need for swift action to ensure a successful outcome in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.
