Singapore and Malaysia have taken a significant step to strengthen their joint efforts in combating transnational crimes by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Thursday, November 14.

The agreement was formalized between Malaysia’s Minister of Home Affairs, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, and Singapore’s Minister for Home Affairs and Law, K Shanmugam, at Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs headquarters. The signing coincided with an official visit by Mr. Saifuddin to Singapore, which took place from November 13 to 14.

The MOU focuses on intensifying collaboration between the two nations to tackle issues such as drug trafficking, terrorism, cybercrime, and various scams, including those that are cyber-enabled.

To support this initiative, a joint working committee will be established, involving the home affairs ministries of both countries. This committee will aim to develop activities, policies, and programs that will be conducted under the MOU framework.

Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs emphasized that the agreement highlights the strong and long-lasting relationship between the security agencies of Singapore and Malaysia. This partnership has included cooperation in information sharing, training, capacity building, and mutual assistance on several security matters.
