Sports utility vehicle Thar is winning everyone's heart

The demand for SUVs (Sports Utility Vehicles) is continuously increasing in India. In this episode, Mahindra has recently overtaken Tata Motors to become the third largest car company in the country. After the booking of Mahindra's new Thar Rocks started, there was tremendous enthusiasm about it. In the first hour of opening the booking, 1.76 lakh bookings of Thar Rocks were done, which shows the popularity of this model. Mahindra hopes that this dominance will continue in the coming times. The company is planning to introduce the Born-Electric SUV range in the next phase.

Mahindra sales rise

In the third quarter of 2024, Mahindra sold a total of 1,35,962 units, which is 6,028 units more than Tata's 1,29,934 units. In September 2024, Mahindra sold 51,062 units, while Tata Motors sold only 41,065 units. Thus, Mahindra got a lead of 9,997 units. Maruti Suzuki holds the title of India's largest car company, while Hyundai is at the second position.

Mahindra's successful SUV models

The demand for SUVs is a major reason behind the increase in Mahindra's sales. This includes SUVs like Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic, XUV700, Thar, XUV300, Bolero, and Bolero Neo. Scorpio N, Scorpio Classic and XUV700 together are ruling the mid-size SUV segment with a combined market share of over 75 per cent.

Tata Performance

However, Tata Motors performed better than Mahindra in July and August. In July, Tata sold 44,727 units, while Mahindra sold 41,623 units. In August, this gap reduced to 865 units. In August, Tata sold 44,142 units, while Mahindra sold 43,277 units.

Mahindra's growth rate

In September, Mahindra achieved the highest growth rate of 24 percent among all car companies. This month, only three out of 14 car companies have achieved positive growth rate year-on-year. Apart from Mahindra, Kia (17.49 percent) and Toyota (7.37 percent) have also achieved positive growth.
