Trump Appoints Susie Wiles as First Female White House Chief of Staff

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Susie Wiles, the manager of his successful campaign, as his White House chief of staff. Wiles, who played a key role in overseeing one of Trump’s most organized and effective campaigns, becomes the first woman to hold this influential position.

Known for her disciplined approach, Wiles has been widely acknowledged for maintaining focus throughout Trump’s campaign, although she largely avoided the spotlight. During Trump’s victory speech, Wiles chose not to speak publicly, letting her strategic work shine through instead.

Trump’s selection of Wiles marks his first major decision as president-elect and sets the tone for his upcoming administration. Despite lacking government experience, Wiles holds a close, respectful relationship with Trump, guiding him effectively without confrontation. She gained his trust by showing the benefits of following her strategic advice.

In a statement, Trump expressed confidence in Wiles’s leadership: “Susie is tough, smart, and universally respected. She will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again. It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt she will make our country proud.”

During his first term, Trump faced high turnover in his White House, with four different chiefs of staff. This new appointment brings hopes for a stable administration. The chief of staff serves as the president’s primary advisor and gatekeeper, managing access and shaping the president’s agenda.

Chris Whipple, author of The Gatekeepers, highlighted the importance of the chief of staff's role in the White House, saying, “The most important thing is telling the president what he doesn’t want to hear.” He acknowledged Wiles's ability to work with Trump while also noting her lack of experience in Washington could be challenging.

Wiles, a longtime Republican strategist based in Florida, has managed several of Trump’s campaigns, including in 2016 and 2020. Before working with Trump, she led Rick Scott’s campaign for Florida governor in 2010 and briefly managed Jon Huntsman’s 2012 presidential campaign.

Her leadership has earned praise within Trump’s campaign team. Co-manager Chris LaCivita expressed his pride, describing Wiles as “one of the fiercest and most loyal warriors.”

Trump often praised Wiles during campaign events, noting her dedication and competence. In a Milwaukee rally, he called her “incredible,” while in Pennsylvania, he humorously referenced her influence in keeping him on message.
