Ahmadabad: On Friday, October 4, two minors from the Muslim community in Danilimda, Ahmedabad, were handed over to the police for allegedly insulting the national flag. The incident occurred when locals spotted the minors carrying kites made from pieces of the national flag. Upon witnessing this, residents intervened, and the police later registered an FIR against the minors.

Danilimda Police Inspector GJ Rawat confirmed the incident and stated that both minors have been booked under Section 2 of the 'Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971' for insulting the national flag, and Section 54 of the Indian Penal Code for acting as catalysts during the crime. The complainant, who was passing through the area at night, noticed the minors on a white Activa scooter. The minors had kites tied in a scarf made from the tricolor flag. When questioned, the minors attempted to flee, dropping a packet near Mangal Vikas Chowk, which they tried to retrieve.

The complainant managed to catch both minors and found that they had about eight national flags stitched together in the packet. When asked, the minors explained that they could not find any other cloth for making the kites. As the situation escalated, a crowd gathered, and upon seeing the national flag being disrespected, they helped apprehend the minors before informing the police.

A video shows the two minors riding the scooter, with the passenger holding a packet made from the national flag. The colors of the tricolor—saffron, white, and green—along with the Ashok Chakra, are clearly visible on the cloth used to make the kite.

Local sources revealed that after the minors were taken to the police station, leaders from the AIMIM and Congress arrived in support of the minors. A crowd gathered at the station, but the police managed the situation promptly, ensuring no further incident occurred. The investigation is ongoing.
