Send Push

Sleep is an important part of everyone's life, be it human or animal. However, the way of sleeping of all creatures is different. You must have often seen birds sleeping on the branches of trees at night, but have you ever wondered why they do not fall while sleeping? Let us know today how birds sleep and how they avoid falling from trees.

The unique way birds sleep

When a person is in deep sleep, he loses his senses. Many times we fall while changing sides on the bed. But this does not happen with birds. Even while sitting on the thin branches of trees, they keep sleeping comfortably and do not fall. There are many reasons behind this.

How do birds sleep?

The sleep duration of birds is very different from that of humans. While we sleep for long periods, birds sleep for short periods. According to scientists, birds take short naps of about 10 seconds and then wake up. Moreover, they often sleep with one eye open.

Birds sleep by dividing their brains into two parts. When one part of their brain is sleeping, the other part remains aware. If their left brain is active, their right eye remains open, and vice versa. For this reason, they can sense dangers around them even while sleeping.

Why don't birds fall?

The biggest reason for birds not falling from trees is their physical structure. The structure of their feet is such that they can hold any twig or object firmly. When they sit on a tree branch to sleep, their claws grip the twig. This grip remains strong until the bird wakes up and straightens its legs.

Claw lock mechanism

The paws of birds work like a lock system. When they sit on a branch, their feet naturally bend and hold the branch. This grip is so strong that birds can sleep without any fear. Birds like parrots can even sleep hanging upside down from a branch and still not fall. In conclusion, the way birds sleep and their anatomy ensure that they sleep safely on tree branches. The lock system of their paws and the conscious part of their brain protect them from falling.
