Women Lead the Way in Jharkhand Assembly Elections Phase 1: EC

New Delhi: Women voters took center stage during the first phase of the Jharkhand assembly elections, recording a higher turnout than men in 37 of the 43 constituencies that went to polls. The Election Commission (EC) announced on Friday that this phase, held on November 13, achieved a voter turnout of 66.65%, which is 2.75% higher than the turnout in these constituencies during the 2019 elections.

Highlighting the participation of women, the Election Commission said, "Women voters enthusiastically took part, surpassing the male turnout by 4.8%, reflecting their growing role in strengthening the democratic process."

The Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer confirmed that all polling parties have returned safely, and the scrutiny of votes has been completed in the presence of candidates or their authorized representatives.

The final tally of votes, including postal ballots, will be available after counting. Postal ballots account for votes from service voters, absentee voters such as those over 85 years of age, persons with disabilities, those in essential services, and polling officials on election duty.

The Election Commission assured that a daily update on postal ballots received is shared with all candidates, following established protocols. This phase of elections sets a promising tone for greater public engagement in the democratic process, especially highlighting the significant role of women voters in shaping the future of Jharkhand.
