Abandoned theme park set to reopen in huge boost to UK's 'worst' seaside town

A in England, with a less-than glowing reputation, could soon see a major transformation after plans to reopen a theme park there are underway.

Morecambe, in Lancashire, was recently named one of the UK's worst coastal towns by the Telegraph.

It was brutally dubbed as the fifth-worst seaside destination that has the potential to be "so much more than it is".

But talks are now in progress to revitalise the site of Frontierland, a former theme park in Morecambe that has been derelict since its closure in 2000.

After 24 years of standing vacant, local authorities are eager to breathe new life into the area.

Jonathan Noad, a city council officer from the area, said that around "35 regional and national developers" were coming to the town to discuss the abandoned theme park.

But they are also requesting interested parties to have a say in what they do with the land, which was acquired by the city council in 2021.

Morecambe is also set to welcome the second edition of the Eden Project, a development slated to open by 2028.

Developers are aiming to mirror the success of the original Eden Project in Cornwall, with the £100 million Morecambe site set to include a "hyper-real forest," large-scale installations, and immersive theatre experiences.

The attraction will be housed in three massive, shell-shaped pavilions, overlooking the scenic Morecambe Bay.

Visitors can also look forward to the "Bay Glade," a wellness-focused landscape, along with a Natural Observatory dedicated to research and education.

Additional features will include an exhibition space and gathering area called the Bay Hall, as well as play zones, restaurants, cafés, and a gift shop to round out the visitor experience.

Councillors hope a developer will propose an "exciting idea" which can transform the site in the next 18 months.
