Britain is bracing for a significant weather event that could bring widespread snow, sub-zero temperatures, and within the coming days.

Maps from forecaster WXCharts show a likelihood of snow across much of the country.

Weather maps indicate high probabilities of across large parts of Scotland, northern England, and even portions of Wales and the Midlands.

According to the likelihood of snow increases significantly on Friday, November 22, and Saturday, November 23, particularly across higher elevations and northern regions.

The snow probabilities range from 30% to over 90% in affected zones, with the heaviest accumulations predicted for Scotland and the Pennines.

By early Saturday, snow depth maps suggest several centimetres of snow could blanket parts of Scotland, with Inverness and Aberdeen seeing accumulations of up to 8-10 cm.

Northern England, including areas near Manchester and Newcastle, may see snow depths of 2-7 cm. Snowfall could extend further south into the Midlands, although accumulations here are expected to remain lighter.

Urban centres such as Birmingham and Cardiff may experience a dusting or temporary snow cover, with London and southern regions facing a lower risk of snow settling.

In addition to snow, heavy rain is forecast for much of the UK, particularly in the west. A low-pressure system moving in from the Atlantic will bring heavy downpours, with rainfall intensities exceeding 10 mm/hour in some areas.

Freezing rain could accompany the snowfall, leading to dangerous icy road conditions.

The Met Office has already issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice across northern and central Britain until 10am Wednesday. These warnings highlight risks of travel disruption, power outages, and hazardous conditions on untreated roads and pavements.
