Ben Miller left 'seething' after Christmas was ruined by 'extortionate' price of panettone

Sunday Brunch's guests this week failed to guess the 'extortionate' price of a Christmas panettone actor Ben Miller revealed he bought at a fair recently.

This week, Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer welcomed actor Ben along with Samara Joy, Nina Wadia, Gregor Fisher, Ben Hardy and Elmiene to the studio.

Presenter Tim kicked off the conversation: "Ben, we heard you paid an obscene amount of money for some bread this week."

Ben rolled his eyes and revealed he went to a Christmas fair this week, to which Tim asked: "Do you love them?"

"I do actually," Ben confirmed. "Genuinely love a Christmas fair, a great way to get in the mood for Christmas.

"Saw a panettone and thought, 'I'll get that for my brother-in-law'. Can you guess how much it cost?"

"I know, so I can't guess," Tim replied. "Ask the international celebrities!"

Guesses started at £7 before Ben described the Christmas gift, prompting an estimate of £25 from Gregor.

"You've got to factor in the tin, a nice tin. Panettone, tin, hazlenut, chocolate."

After Gregor's guess, the actor replied: "Raise you £25." Nina then guessed £35 and Ben confirmed the price was higher.

Gregor suggested £50 and Ben revealed it cost even more than that.

"60 quid!" he confirmed. "At that point I didn't know what to do! I felt like I was on the spot."

He then confessed, "And I paid!" To which Tim suggested the fair saw him coming: "They were thinking, 'It's Ben Miller off the telly!'"

"Exactly! Exactly!" Ben exclaimed. "I'm exposed! I felt I couldn't let them down. I couldn't back out.

"But I'm seething. It's ruined Christmas for me!" he admitted, prompting laughter from the other guests. "Nobody's getting anything."

Tim ventured: "What was so special about it, did they say?" and Ben confessed "It's Dolce & Gabbana. I thought it said Dolce & Gobbana, like it was a joke. No, it was actually by Dolce & Gabbana, so 60 quid."

Sunday Brunch airs Sundays from 9:30am on Channel 4.
