Brilliant London Underground map shows just how long it takes to walk between each station

Hopping on a train may appear the quickest way to get around the capital but visitors may be surprised that

And many could be shocked to discover that some stations are separated by just hundreds of steps or a couple of minutes of exercise.

TfL even admits that some popular journeys may be "quicker to walk" due to the complexities of getting below the surface and waiting for trains.

With each trip costing individuals anywhere from £2.30, walking around the capital could also help cash-strapped locals and tourists save this Autumn and Winter.

According to TfL, it would take individuals just two minutes to walk between Great Portland Street Station and Regents Park with the stations separated by just 200 steps.

This is the shortest trip on the network, closely followed by the journey between Bank and Cannon Street which will take just four minutes above ground.

One of the quickest journeys is on the Piccadilly Line.

TfL reckons individuals could travel between the two stations in around four minutes while the entire West End from Piccadilly Circus to Covent Garden could be traversed in around ten minutes.

Those travelling from Bank to Mansion House can complete the journey in just five minutes with 500 steps in it.

The map explains that walking across from London Bridge to Monument will take just six minutes while travelling from Embankment Station to Westminster by foot will be around ten minutes.

The diagram also shows that connecting between the two popular railway stations of Moorgate and Liverpool Street could be reached through a six minute walk.

Transport for London explained: "Walking can be a quick and easy way to get around, particularly when travelling during the busiest times, which are 05:45-08:15 and 16:00-17:30 Monday to Friday.

"This map shows how much time it takes to walk between stations on the same line."
