Viewers were in uproar as many claimed Sean's treatment of the presenter was "unacceptable".

One fumed: "Whatever they are paying Emily Maitlis to present @Channel4News #AmericaDecides, it isn't enough. Sean Spicer should not have been allowed to behave like that towards Maitlis. @Channel4 have a duty of care towards their staff & that was unacceptable. Glad he's off."

Another tweeted: "Sean Spicer spat his dummy out #AmericaDecides."

A third wrote: "Oh god, it's only been 15 minutes, and it's a mess. Who chose Sean Spicer?! #channel4."

"C4 US election commentary is almost unwatchable. What a terrible choice of panellists. It's such bargain basement political coverage," another tweeted.

A sixth added: "I suspect Channel 4 will regret letting Sean Spicer and Boris Johnson on their American election panel. One is horribly aggressive, the other keeps plugging his book. Both are making this all about them. Not learning much."

Last year, lawsuits were filed seeking to remove Mr Trump from the state's election ballots because of his role in the insurrection on January 6, 2021.

"It's a fact," he replied. To which Emily declared, "Well, it isn't."

The former White House Press Secretary argued: "What have I said that isn't true, Emily? Every single thing I said I can back up. Since you brought it up, what was I wrong about?"

She reiterated: "The question of Donald Trump, a convicted felon, should be allowed to stand?"

Sean continued to suggest Mr Trump had been kicked off the ballot by the Democrat Party, adding, "He went to court and got put back on. So you're lying."

He fumed: "You accused me of making a false statement when it was actually just you who lied to the viewers. She said I misled people."

Emily continued to reiterate that it was incorrect to claim it was the Democratic Party "who threw him off the ballot", but instead, "some courts in various states who said a convicted felon should not be on a ballot".

Their on-air row comes just hours before Emily was pulled off air after swearing during a rant about Mr Trump, who has since clenched victory as US president.
