Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams has sparked a frenzy after fans 'spotted her' in a photo from 75 years ago.
At just 12 years old, Williams made her acting debut in the , but fans are now joking that she could be a 'time traveller'. A 1948 school photo taken in Oakland, California, has surfaced, showing what appears to be the actress' doppelganger.
The nostalgic snap was posted on a thread devoted to historical look-alikes, captioned: "Sixth grade Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) travels to Oakland, CA, class in 1948." The young girl in the picture, sporting a patterned skirt, cardigan, and a bow in her hair, bears an uncanny resemblance to the actress.
In response to the image, one baffled observer commented: "As much as that looks like her, I have to ask, why, of all places, would she travel to Oakland in 1948?"
Another pointed out: "Fourth on the left in the same row is a solid Elizabeth Moss, too!" One witty fan referenced her stint on , speculating: "Maybe Dr Who was a bit more accurate when she was on it than we thought."
Meanwhile another suggested: "Or Arya discovered the secret to immortality and has just been changing her name over the years to prevent being caught." "She might have been the true mind behind the Game of Thrones series, as it might have been a true story, and to prevent too much suspicion she had her (literally) oldest friend write the books," said someone else.
Williams shot to fame as Arya Stark, a central character in the fantasy television series. Now 27, she has bagged eight awards and has been nominated for 26 others - including Portal Awards for Best Supporting Actress and Best Young Actor, and Saturn Awards for Best Performance by a Young Actor in a Television Series.
This year, she graced the screen in The Luckiest Man in America, TV series The New Look and video game MultiVersus. Speculation about a Game of Thrones spin-off project featuring Williams was ignited by George RR Martin.
The fantasy author wrote about a recent trip to London on his blog, revealing that he met with Williams for pizza and pasta. He teased: "We talked about... well, no, better not get into that, do not want to jinx it. But it could be so much fun."
